On a sunny afternoon in Salt Lake City, the Talons and Bandits combined for one of the highest-scoring games of the young Athletes Unlimited Softball League season. Utah’s offense delivered timely hits throughout the contest while the pitching staff worked around several Chicago scoring threats to secure the victory.

The matchup featured an interesting homecoming storyline for Chicago starter Mariah Lopez, who returned to the field where she starred collegiately at the University of Utah. Lopez spent her college career pitching just steps away from the venue that now serves as the home of the Talons, adding an extra layer of familiarity to the series finale.

Utah countered with Megan Faraimo, who took the circle for the Talons and helped set the tone early. Faraimo worked through multiple innings against an aggressive Chicago lineup, allowing Utah’s offense an opportunity to build momentum.

The Talons capitalized.

After trading runs with the Bandits early, Utah’s lineup began finding gaps and putting pressure on Chicago’s defense. Several Talons hitters contributed key hits as the home team pieced together rallies throughout the afternoon. The offensive production marked a sharp contrast from the pitcher’s duel earlier in the series and showcased the depth that has made Utah one of the league’s most dangerous lineups.

Chicago answered repeatedly and refused to go away quietly. The Bandits matched Utah with several scoring opportunities of their own, turning the contest into an entertaining back-and-forth affair for the fans in attendance. Despite the offensive surge, Utah consistently found answers whenever Chicago threatened to seize momentum.

The victory capped a successful opening series for the Talons, who continued to establish themselves as one of the AUSL’s early-season contenders. After winning close, low-scoring games earlier in the week, Utah demonstrated it could also prevail in a game driven by offense.

For the Bandits, Lopez battled against a lineup that had already seen her club several times during the opening week of the season. Despite the loss, the former Utah standout received a warm reception from local fans familiar with her accomplishments during her collegiate career.

With the win, the Talons continued their strong start to the 2026 campaign and sent the home crowd home happy after an entertaining afternoon of professional softball at Dumke Family Softball Stadium.
