Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT – Javier Morales made returned to the RioT tonight for the first time since leaving the club last year, although he stayed on the bench for the duration, his new club shut out RSL for their 3rd loss in a row. RSL paid tribute to Morales and the impact he has had on this club. It was great to see Morales, Rimando and Beckerman on the pitch together.

SANDY, Utah (Friday, May 5, 2017) – Real Salt Lake (2-5-2, 8th West) returns home to Rio Tinto Stadium this weekend to face West rival FC Dallas (4-0-3, t-2nd West) Saturday night. Fans are encouraged to arrive early prior to the game’s 7:30 p.m. MT kickoff, in order to witness a special pre-game ceremony to honor former RSL and current Dallas midfielder Javier Morales, in his first visit to Utah since departing the club last November.

Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT – In a match that was all defense Real Salt Lake draws again at home against the league leading FC Dallas.
The result means that neither team moves in the Western Conference standings, FC Dallas remains on top and RSL hold forth place for now. RSL still has not clinched a playoff berth, but with 3 matches to go they are still positioned to make a run at the 2016 MLS Cup. Continue reading

Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT – Real Salt Lake gets a much needed 3 points at home
tonight against the top team in the league as they took on FC Dallas at Rio Tinto Stadium. This is the first of 2 visits FC Dallas will make to Rio Tinto before the end of the season and is the start of a 3 game home stand for the Claret and Cobalt.
RSL came out and with intensity from the opening whistle and made this match look like a playoff match. Coach Cassar said that as the team left the locker room Juan Manuel Martinez told the team to play like it was a final, and they did. Dallas just couldn’t keep up as RSL help possession 66% with Dallas at 34%. The passing accuracy was also right on target with 80% for Real tonight. Continue reading
RSL Starting XI
Toyota Stadium, Frisco, TX – Real Salt Lake left most of players normally see in the starting XI on the bench tonight as they fell to FC Dallas 2-0. On a night that saw RSL with zero shots on goal, there were still positives to take away from the match.
Coach Cassar noted that “We had a stretch we played six games in 18 days. You have to manage the players, you have to manage the staff. I thought the group of players did an excellent job working for each other in difficult situations.”
With all of the new faces on the pitch it seemed only a matter of time before Dallas would be able to capitalize on their advantage. In the 18th minute Maura Diaz took a free kick and the RSL back line believed that both Kellyn Acosta and Michael Barrios were offsides and let up on the defense, which gave Acosta a clean shot at goal to put FC Dallas up a goal.
Fabian Castillo put in the insurance goal in the 58th minute on a beautiful shot that Attinella had no chance against. Continue reading
