SALT LAKE CITY – The NCAA announced today the University of Utah has been selected to host first- and second-round games of the 2019 Men’s Basketball Tournament. The games will take place March 21 and 23 at Vivint Smart Home Arena, which is in the process of undergoing a major renovation.

The University of Utah is no stranger to hosting NCAA Tournament games. Ironically, 2019 will serve as the 40th anniversary of the 1979 NCAA Final Four that took place in the Jon M. Huntsman Center, featuring the title game “dream match-up” of Michigan State’s Magic Johnson and Indiana State’s Larry Bird. Continue reading

Utah Football Drives for 31-27 Win Over USC

SALT LAKE CITY – Senior wide receiver Tim Patrick caught an 18-yard touchdown with 16 second remaining to give the University of Utah football team a 31-27 victory over USC in its Pac-12 Conference opener Friday at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Utah went 4-for-4 on fourth-down conversions and earned a 3-1 edge in turnover margin over USC. The Ute receiving corps combined for 209 receiving yards (15 catches) and two touchdowns. Continue reading

Utah Edges BYU For 20-19 Win

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah football team stopped BYU’s two-point conversion attempt with 18 seconds remaining to secure its sixth straight victory over BYU on Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium, 20-19.

Utah (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12) outgained BYU, 363 to 328, but the Utes overcame a 6-3 deficit in the turnover margin, which were Utah’s first turnovers in the series since 2011.

SALT LAKE CITY –The Utah football team recorded its first shutout since 2012 as the Utes won their season opener, 24-0, against Southern Utah on Thursday, Sept. 1, to open the 2016 season.

Utah’s last shutout was against Northern Colorado in 2012, a 41-0 win.

Utah led 3-0 after a field goal on its first drive of the game before a pair of late-second quarter touchdowns gave Utah a 17-0 halftime lead. Utah increased its lead to 24-0 after a fourth-quarter score.

Rose Ties Utah Strikeout Record but Utes fall 5-4 to Washington

SALT LAKE CITY – Jayson Rose tied the single-season strikeout record as the Utah baseball team dropped game one to Washington, 5-4, on Friday afternoon.

Washington took a 4-0 lead with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Utes rallied back to score three runs in the sixth and tied the game with a run in the seventh before Washington scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth.

Utah_vs_Washington-6Rose had six strikeouts to bring his season total to 102, tying the record set by Jason Price in 2004. Rose allowed four runs on six hits with four walks in a no decision. Dylan Drachler, who earned the loss, allowed one run on two hits in the eighth, while Riley Ottesen closed out the game for the Utes.
