Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT – Nick Rimando is now the sole owner of all-time Major League wins as he surpassed Kevin Hartman with his 181st win. Nick is already the all-time MLS leader in shutouts (126) and minutes played (37,323) and is knocking on the record for games played (needs 4) and saves (needs 49). Hard to believe he has never been Goalkeeper of the year.
As a bonus Real Salt Lake finally gets a full 3 points at home for the first time since June 22nd. While still unbeaten at home in MLS competition, RSL has been disappointed to not take advantage of the home crowd at Rio Tinto Stadium, but tonight in front of 19,909 screaming fans the entire club was firing on all cylinders as they handily defeated the Chicago Fire. Sandy, UT – Real Salt Lake pull a 0-0 draw tonight against the LA Galaxy at Rio Tinto Stadium. Not the start we expected tonight at Rio Tinto, as a huge thunderclap was heard and felt during the singing of the national anthem.
After the lighting and thunder there was a 62 minute delay before the clubs re-entered the pitch to finally start the match. RSL modified their formation slightly to compensate for the many injuries Continue reading
Real Salt Lake has confirmed that defender Carlos Salcedo to leave RSL for Chivas de Guadalajara in Mexico’s Liga MX. Per league and club policy, the transfer fee exchanged and allocation allotment will not be disclosed.
Salcedo played two seasons with Real Salt Lake and one with Real Salt Lake’s Arizona Academy. Over two seasons, he played in 25 matches, starting 20 times. In 2014, he logged 800 minutes in his second season on the RSL back line. He scored his first career MLS goal on September 19 in a 5-1 win over the Colorado Rapids and started six straight matches to close out the season as Salt Lake went 3-2-1 with a 0.67 goals against average and three straight shutouts in the final three matches.
Salcedo was considered one of the young and upcoming players for RSL and was a hopeful to replace a depleted backfield that went through a number of changes during the 2014/2015 off season. Salcedo played several times with Mexico’s U-23 National Team, which is currently undergoing preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
During the off season Carlos was vocal on wanting to be released from his final year with RSL and went to his instagram and twitter feeds to vent his frustration. His father was also focal on the use of his son during the prior season with some interesting tweets of his own during the MLS playoffs. Salsedo was not happy with his sons playing time and said he was happy for the Galaxy rather than the team his son plays for and his son not being part of the lineup.
