2016 Rocky Mountain Cup
Dick’s Sporting Park, Commerce City, CO – Mike Petke was able keep his perfect record as head coach for Real Salt Lake on 2 late goals. Real Salt Lake traveled to Dick’s Sporting Park in the first defense of the Rocky Mountain Cup.
This is the second match that Coach Petke has traveled with RSL, his first since assuming the Head Coaching responsibilities. Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT – Real Salt Lake has finally ended the win less 2017 drought with a stunning 3-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps at the RioT in Mike Petke’s debut for the Claret and Cobalt.
The evening started out cold and rainy, but within 15 minutes it had transitioned to cold and snowy. RSL didn’t seem to to be phased by the weather as they came out with very aggressive play, and didn’t let up for the entire 90 minutes. Continue reading
Kyle Beckerman Red Card
Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT – Real Salt Lake and the LA Galaxy met up for the first time in this young 2017 season with both clubs without a win. RSL fans got to have a great look at some of the new talent with outstanding performances from Sebastian Saucedo and Brooks Lennon, but even with the early lead it wasn’t enough to overcome a barrage of yellow cards with LA pulling out the 1-3 win.
Yura Movsisyan put RSL on top 1-0 in the 18th minute when he headed on into the net, and it looked like all the momentum was on the their side. It all began to change in the 34th minute. Luke Mulholland was fouled by Jermain Jones in the midfield and he reacted with a push to Jones. When we were finished both Mulholland and Beckerman walked away with the yellow cards. Real Salt Lake
SANDY, Utah (Saturday, March 4, 2017) – Real Salt Lake began the 2017 campaign with a scoreless draw against the 2016 MLS Cup runners-up Toronto FC. In a tightly-contested and physical match, RSL GK Nick Rimando’s first half penalty kick stop proved to be the difference.
The game began in early-season fashion with neither team getting a firm hold on the game in the first 20 minutes with wind affecting both team’s ability going forward.
The game’s intensity sped up exponentially when Toronto FC Sebastian Giovinco was brought down by Rimando in the box in the 30th minute, resulting in a TFC penalty kick. Rimando saved the ensuing PK, diving low to his left, hanging onto the Giovinco’s effort. Continue reading
Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT – The US Women’s National team made a stop in the Beehive state for a friendly vs. the Switzerland Women’s National team where they dominated the entire match.
It was an exciting night for Ashley Hatch, a BYU senior, who didn’t make the starting eleven, but was available on the bench. The hometown crowd went wild as she entered the match for her first International cap midway through the second half substituting for Tobin Heath.

Thalmann played well in the goal for Switzerland for the first half, but right after the second half began all changed. With the amount of pressure that the US women played the entire length of the field it felt like that first goal would come at any time. The floodgates opened just 49 seconds into the second half Lynn Williams, who was substituted in at the half for her first cap, scored her first goal for the USWNT.in her first cap scored her first goal.
