Sophie Schmidt puts the first PK in the net

With the match tied as we passed the 90 minute mark it was time for penalty kicks to decide who moves forward and who goes home. Both clubs lined up to shoot at the east end of the stadium and Sophie Schmidt was the first to strike for Houston. Amy Rodriguez tried to keep up but her shot missed the goal giving the advantage to Houston. Christine Nairn was next up for Houston and she kept them perfect in the shootout and doubling the lead for Houston. Lo’eau Lamont gave the Royals the first touch of the back of the net to keep hope alive for her club, but Rachel Daly kept up the pressure adding another PK for Houston. Next up, Tziarra King with a shot past Campbell making the second goal for the Royals. There was a glimmer of hope when Abby Smith blocked the attempt by Brianna Visali but the match was over when Veronica Boguet ran up against the wall that was Carolyn Campbell tonight.
