Express Complete Sweep of the Bees with 5-4 Win in Extra Innings

Salt Lake City, Utah (August 15, 2016) – The Bees fell 5-4 in the series finale against the Round Rock Express on Monday night in front of 12,752 fans at Smith’s Ballpark. Three-time World Series Champion and two-time Cy Young award Winner Tim Lincecum made his Salt Lake debut tonight. Lincecum went four and one-third innings, striking out four, walking four and allowed four earned runs. Both offenses jumped out to early runs, with the Express tagging Lincecum for three runs in the top of the first, but the Bees quickly struck back as Todd Cunningham hit a three-run homer off Round Rock starter Derek Holland. The two teams were tied at four after five innings, and remained that way until the top of the 11^th inning when Matt Duffy hit a solo shot off of reliever Greg Mahle that proved to be the winning run.

The Bees offense was led by former University of Utah standout C.J. Cron who is currently on a MLB rehab assignment after a broken hand suffered on July 8^th. The big right-hander went two-for-four with a double and a walk, his first two hits as a Bee this season. Daniel Nava also added three hits on the evening, raising his Salt Lake average to .400. In 40 at-bats, Nava has recorded 16 hits, three of the double variety. The Bees bullpen chipped in for six and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out seven.

Salt Lake will take on the New Orleans Zephyrs tomorrow night at 7:05 pm and will finish up the homestand with four games highlighted by a Friday night throwback Buzz Night. Players will wear Buzz jerseys and the first 2,000 fans will receive a David Ortiz Buzz Bobblehead.
