Zions Bank Stadium, Herriman, UT – The Chicago Red Stars and Washington Spirit took to the field late in second match of the opening day of the 2020 Utah Challenge Cup at Zions Bank Stadium. Once again both teams showed support for racial justice during the team introductions, followed by a moment of silence for those effected by racial inequality.
It didn’t take long for the scoring to begin with USWNT start Rose Lavelle getting on the board in the 8th minute of play. The lone goal stood until the Spirit doubled their lead shortly after the break when Ashley Hatch took advantage of Alyssa Naeher who was having some problems of her own in the 46th minute. Morgan Gautrat pulled one goal back in the 51st minute but Chicago was not able to get the equalizer and the Spirit took full points on the match.
