Real Salt Lake at Colorado Rapids Rocky Mountain Cup Action
SANDY, Utah (Friday, April 14, 2017) – Real Salt Lake (1-3-2, 8th West) kicks off its 2017 Rocky Mountain Cup series with rival Colorado Rapids (1-2-1, 9th West) Saturday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in suburban Denver at 7:00 p.m. MT, the first road match for the club with new Head Coach Mike Petke at the helm.
Saturday’s game will be televised locally via KMYU (coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. MT on 2.2 air / 12 satellite / 643 Comcast HD) with David James and Brian Dunseth on the call, and can also heard live via RSL outlets ESPN700 AM (English radio coverage starts at 6:00 p.m. MT w/ Bill Riley, Jay Nolly, Spencer Warne & Jeremy Horton) & 102.3 FM / 1600 AM (Spanish, Fernando Hortal & Nelson Moran). Rocky Mountain Cup
Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT – The Rocky Mountain Cup comes back home to Rio Tinto Stadium as Real Salt Lake defeats the Colorado Rapids 2-1. RSL also gets those much needed home points as the end of the MLS Season approaches as they moved past Colorado to take over 2nd place in the Western Conference.
Real Salt Lake and Colorado play 3 matches this season, and with each club winning 1-0 on their home pitch tonight’s result decided who will hold the Rocky Mountain Cup. RSL won this years series 2-1-0.
Gashi gets one past Nick
Colorado got off to an early start when Shkelzen Gashi was able to intercept the deflection off of Nick Rimando and send the ball to the back of the net. RSL had its chances early on, but did seem a little out of sync during to start the match. That all changed in the 39th minute when Demar Phillips found Yura Movsisyan who beat Tim Howard to level the match at 1-1. Continue reading
