The Salt Lake Bees broke open a close game with six runs in the ninth inning, as they rolled past New Orleans 9-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Bees led 3-2 going into the ninth when Nolan Fontana led off with a double to right field. After Sherman Johnson walked, Matt Williams and Tony Sanchez followed with back-to-back RBI singles. Bo Way walked to load the bases before Eric Young, Jr. brought home a run on an infield single. Rey Navarro walked to force in the fourth run of the inning. One out later, a fielder’s choice by Ramon Flores scored Way and Fontana drove in the last run with his second double of the inning.
Williams led the Bees with two hits, including a two run homer in the second that gave Salt Lake a 2-0 lead, and three runs batted in, while Fontana added three hits and one RBI. Bees’ starter Daniel Wright (2-1) picked up the win, as he went five innings and allowed just one run on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Justin Miller recorded the final four outs to earn his fifth save of the season. Salt Lake has taken the first three games of the series and has now won nine of its last eleven games.
