Salt Lake City, Utah (September 2, 2016) – The Salt Lake Bees lost 5-4 in game one of the four game series against the Las Vegas 51s Friday night. Fan Appreciation Night brought 12,620 fans to Smith’s Ballpark to watch Kyle McGowin start on the mound. McGowin delivered six innings, scattering seven hits while only allowing two runs in what is likely to be his last start of the 2016 season. Reynolds singled to center field with two outs to score T.J. Rivera and Roger Bernadina. The Bees responded with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning, piecing together back-to-back-to-back two out hits. Salt Lake would add to the lead in the sixth inning on a Arakawa RBI triple, but the 51s battled back to tie the game with two in the seventh and retook the lead with a run in the eighth.

Geoff Broussard drew the loss tonight, after tossing one and one-third innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Broussard falls to 2-4 on the season with the loss. The bottom third of the Salt Lake lineup drove in all four runs on the night. Forrestt Allday finished the night 2-for-4, newly promoted Jose Briceno went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIS and Arakawa finished the evening 2-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in. As a group, the bottom three of the Bees order entered tonight having recorded just 14 hits on the season. The Bees were able to put the tying and winning runs on base in the ninth inning, but Johnny Giavotella flew out to right field in the final at bat. With the loss tonight, the Bees are now 62-76 on the season. Las Vegas improves to 68-73 with three games remaining on the schedule. Salt Lake will square off against the 51’s tomorrow night at 7:05 pm with lefty  Nate Smith getting the start on the mound.
