RSL comes in like a lion and exits like a lamb

America First Field, Sandy, UT – Real Salt Lake hit the pitch tonight and in the first 4 minutes they had a 2-0 lead. The first was a 1st minute goal from Zavier Gozo and then a 4th minute strike from Diego Luna. Things settled down for a bit as both clubs tried to get into a rhythm and it was Vancouver that found their stride with a 20th minute goal from Brian White and after an RSL handball Brian White leveled the score with a PK. It wasn’t until the 90th minute that the affair was decided with a shot from Pedro Vite took advantage of some sloppy defense from RSL and gave his club 3 points for their effort. RSL continues to struggle at home and away.

The match started off with RSL showing great form and Zavier Gozo added another goal to his tally in just the 1st minute of the match. It was an amazing shot and it looked like it was setting the tone for the match with a followup from Diego Luna in the 4th minute to put his club up 2-0. It really felt like we were seeing RSL return to the form we are used to at home but the tide turned when Brian White pulled one back for Vancouver in the 20th minute and just a short time later Vancouver was awarded a penalty kick earning Brian White his second goal of the match shooting from the spot. There were several chances that should have found the goal but between those misses and some sloppy play the half ended with the score tied at 2-2.

Deigo Luna celebrates his goal

The second half began with neither club making any changes. There was plenty of chances for RSL and it looked like Gozo would find the net a couple of times. But it wasn’t until the waning moments of the match that hope for the home club faded completely when the defensive sloppy play led to a goal from Pedro Vite in the 90th minute. There were still chances for Real but they just could seem to get it done. You have to wonder about what has to change to get back in form again fro the Claret and Cobalt. It definitely feels like all options should be on the table to get the club back to the form fans have become used to. RSL falls to 2-5-1 at home this season and tonight’s performance did not give confidence that we are headed in the right direction.

William Agada drives in the box

RSL kicked off their second 3 game week of the 2025 MLS season tonight at America First Field. Real Salt Lake has struggled at home this year with a record of just 2-4-1 and the road record is about the same at 2-5-2. After last year when RSL had the second most points on the road in club history this has been a disappointing year for the Claret and Cobalt. We had hoped that tonight’s match features the return of fan favorite Damir Kreilach to America First Field since he was traded Vancouver however he was not featured in the Vancouver lineup. Up next for RSL is a pair of road trips to wrap up the month of May with a visit to Austin and then on to take on an LA Galaxy squad that has still not notched a win this season.
