Petke remains perfect on late RSL goals

2016 Rocky Mountain Cup

Dick’s Sporting Park, Commerce City, CO – Mike Petke was able keep his perfect record as head coach for Real Salt Lake on 2 late goals.  Real Salt Lake traveled to Dick’s Sporting Park in the first defense of the Rocky Mountain Cup.

This is the second match that Coach Petke has traveled with RSL, his first since assuming the Head Coaching responsibilities.  Following up an amazing team performance in Coach Petke’s RSL debut, tonight didn’t look anything like the first half of last week or the all gut exhibition in the second half.

Colorado Coach Pablo Mastroeni

For most of the match RSL suffered from bad passes that kept the attacking play that we saw last week from ever materializing.  This allowed Colorado to keep the pressure up on the Real Defense and it finally payed off for them in the 29the minute as Kevin Doyle puts Colorado up 1-0.

Yura Movsisyan vs Col 2016

After an earlier play where we saw Danilo Acosta get away with a handball in the box, the heartbreak for Colorado really began. In the the 85th minute following a RSL free kick the Claret and Cobalt finally smelled blood in the water and after the initial shot failed to make it passed the defense, but on the followup Jared Watts gets his hand in front of the ball keep it from the back of the net.  The result was a red card that saw Watts send from the pitch and a Yura Movsisyan Penalty Kick that was too much for Zac MacMath and just like that we were tied at 1-1.

While most of us felt like a draw was an acceptable result, Brooks Lennon didn’t agree.  In the 88th minutes Lennon shows off his amazing skill when he just out performed 2 defenders and then completely caught MacMath off guard as he sent a ball from distance into the net.
