Jefry Marte and Gregorio Petit have both been called up from the AAA Salt Lake Bees to the active roster of the Los Angeles Angels today.
Jefry Marte has been struggling recently but over the last couple of games has turned things around. Although he had a .225 batting average in Salt Lake, the Angels really had no other option. Yunel Escobar is dealing with a thumb injury so they needed another infielder. Marte started tonight against the Seattle Mariners. Marte will see some playing time until Escobar recovers.
Gregorio Petit is a Venezuelan born player who has played in the MLB for the Oakland Athletics in 2008 and 2009, the Houston Astros in 2014, and the New York Yankees in 2015. He returns to the big league today as the Angels call him up as an additional infielder while Angels infielder Cliff Pennington has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
