SALT LAKE CITY (May 12, 2016) – Chris Jones pitched six strong innings to give the Bees a 7-3 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Thursday night. Jones faced the minimum through three innings and finished with only three runs allowed and struck out eight to tally his second straight quality start. Relievers David Carpenter and Deolis Guerra combined for three innings of relief, allowing two hits and no runs. Bees pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts, just three shy from the season-high.
“I felt pretty good tonight. In the end, I threw a couple of bad pitches and a ball was hit down the line, but that happens. Overall, everything felt pretty good” said Jones.
Salt Lake struck first in the bottom of the third with a series of infield hits and a pair of Isotopes errors to jump to a 3-0 lead. The Bees scored two more in the fourth and fifth to jump out to a 7-0 advantage. Jett Bandy led the charge, finishing three-for-four with a single, two doubles and two RBIs. Nick Buss contributed with two hits and an RBI while Rafael Ortega, Sherman Johnson and Gregorio Petit all chipped in a RBI on the evening. With the win the Bees have won a season-high six straight games and remain in first place in the Pacific Coast League. Salt Lake wraps up the homestand with one more game against Albuquerque starting at 6:35 p.m. on Friday night. Tomorrow night’s game can be heard on 1280 The Zone with Tony Parks behind the microphone, filling in for Steve Klauke who is on assignment with the Los Angeles Angels.
