Disappointing draw against league worst DC United

Maikel Change gets air but no goal

America First Field, Sandy, UT – Real Salt Lake just couldn’t finish and the night ended in disappointment against the club with the worst record in the entire league tonight at the newly renamed America First Field. With the MLS Commissioner, Dan Garber, in attendance Real Salt Lake announced a 15 year partnership with America First Credit Union that includes naming rights for the previously named Rio Tinto Stadium. All of the pomp just couldn’t push the Claret and Cobalt enough and the result was a draw and one point but it sure felt like a loss.

The opportunities were there all night with RSL taking 16 shots and even with 8 of them on frame they just couldn’t sneak one past David Ochoa. All night long it felt like the home club was just one shot away from opening up the match but it just never happened. DC had an answer to our guys every time they looked to take the advantage.

The first half ended with no goals and the second half picked up right were both teams left off. RSL continued to push but they just couldn’t find a way to finish.

David Ochoa returned to America First Field for the first time since his departure to Wayne Rooney’s club. Danny Musovski and Braian Ojeda both made their home debut for the Claret and Cobalt. With only four matches left RSL falls to 7th place in the West with the playoffs on the line. Only two home matches remain this season, Cincinnati visits next Saturday, September 17 and the final home match features the Portland Timbers on Sunday, October 9. Things don’t get any easier for Real Salt Lake with a mid-week match coming up in Austin against Austin FC on Wednesday, September 14th.
