95th minute goal puts RSL on top of Galaxy

Lineups on Hispanic Heritage night

Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT – A 95th minute goal from Anderson Julio gave RSL the full three points over the LA Galaxy with a 2-1 victory.

RSL has won three of its last four matches and is keeping themselves in the playoff picture jumping from 7th to 5th with the win. While LA has not won in their last eight matches. With two impressive wins against the Seattle Sounders and tonight against the Galaxy, Real Salt Lake looks to be finding their form.

Kreilach with a header goal

The Galaxy led the match in almost every stat and it took the Claret and Cobalt a while to get things going tonight but they were the first to strike with a header from Damir Kreilach in the 45th minute and his 12th goal of the season. LA goalkeeper Jonathon Bond got a hand on the ball but he couldn’t keep it from just crossing the line leaving Kreilach to join his family on the sideline to celebrate.

Ochoa came up big all night

With the number of shots taken by the Galaxy and their clear dominance on possession it seemed inevitable all night that they would eventually be able to finish and that time came in the 76th minute when Chicharito beat Ochoa and leveled the score. It took a bit of heroics for the home club to pull this one out when in the 5th minute of stoppage time Damir Kreilach found Anderson Julio making a run down the center of the pitch who connected perfectly with the ball and gave Bond no chance to stop RSL for going up for good.

David Ochoa has to be given a lot of credit for tonight’s win as he showed nothing but dominance in the goal tonight and his club really needed that lift. The game winner from Anderson Julio is his 7th goal of the season. He has played in a total of 23 matches and started in 9 of those.
