SALT LAKE CITY – Here at the Huntsman Center the highlight reel of the game was Delon Wright. He scored 17 points on 8-of-8 shooting and looked like the best player on the floor. Jordan Loveridge added 15 points and 15 rebounds to help Utah pull away from Grand Canyon for a 79-54 victory. The was the first of three games that open the Global Sports Hoops Showcase that goes from Thursday through Saturday night.
This was Jordan Loveridge‘s third double double of the season in just as many games for the Utes. Loveridge shot 1-5 from behind the arc and went 4-5 from the foul line.
Former East High standout Parker Van Dyke had a career-high 12 points off the bench for the Utes (3-0), who used their speed and size to take control from the opening tip. Utah out-rebounded the Antelopes 49-33 and had a 42-28 edge for points in the paint. The Utes produced 20 points off 12 Grand Canyon turnovers. Utah also outscored the Antelopes 17-2 in fastbreak points. The Utes led at the half by 17 with a score of 37-20. The Antelopes cut the lead to as low as 12 in the second half. The 25 point win was the closest the Utes have been finished a content having scored over 100 points in the prior two games.
The Grand Canyon team was lead by Demetrius Walker who had 16 points and Jerome Garrison added 12 to lead the Antelopes. The Grand Canyon coach is former NBA player from the Phoenix Suns Dan Majerle. The Utes have their own former NBA player Larry Krystkowiak. The Utes have games tomorrow and Saturday as the Global Sports Hoops Showcase continues this week.
