America First Field, Sandy, UT – With a dominating performance in virtually every stat RSL defeated Austin FC 2-1 tonight at America First Field to make it 3 in a row in this young season. It was Austin that struck first with a goal from Jon Bell just 18 minutes into the match. It was just just 6 minutes later when Noel Caliskan leveled the score at 1 all. RSL subbed the newly acquired Dutchman, Stijn Spierings, in the 81st minutes of the match and it only took him 7 minutes to make his presence know as the affair was finally settled in the 88th minute when the newcomer Stijn Spierings sent a rocket into the goal for his first MLS goal and the game winner. With the win RSL sits at 3-1-1 on with 9 points and and undefeated record at home.
RSL outshot Austin 24-10 as they kept up the pressure throughout the match. Both goal keepers had some special moments pulling off thrilling multiple shot parried away from the goal but it was Stuver who broker late in the game to help his club go home empty handed.
Real Salt Lake travels to Snapdragon Stadium to take on San Diego next Sunday, March 22nd before returning home on April 4th when long time rival Sporting Kansas City comes to town.
