Real Salt Lake has started their training camp in Arizona but missing was Joao Plata. Plata was back in Salt Lake City where he was undergoing surgery to repair a fracture in the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. Plata may be out for 3-4 months according to RSL Head Coach Jeff Cassar.
Plata’s surgery was deemed successful which is similar to the injury RSL forward Alvaro Saborio suffered last year while playing for his national team. We wish Joao the speediest of recoveries and full restoration of his body. RSL will need him again as much as ever this year.
RSL will be back on the field on Tuesday with the first of four days of two-a-day sessions. The first leg of camp in Casa Grande concludes on Saturday with a preseason match against the New England Revolution, who arrived late Monday evening.
