Bees fall to Sky Sox 5-4

Bees_vs_Isotopes-16SALT LAKE CITY (May 15, 2016) – After a short turnaround from last night’s 18-inning marathon game, the Salt Lake Bees dropped game number two against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Sunday afternoon by a score of 5-4. Zach Nuding (1-3) started the game for Salt Lake on short notice and after three strong innings could not record an out in the fourth. Nuding finished with three innings pitched, six hits, five earned runs and five walks. After throwing a combined 20 innings the last two games, the Bees bullpen continued to be strong as Cody Satterwhite, Lucas Luetge, Neal Cotts and Al Alburquerque combined for five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk to keep the Bees in the game.

The Bees offense got off to a hot start, loading the bases in the first inning for the recently promoted Sherman Johnson. Johnson singled on a line drive to center field and an errant throw by Sky Sox center fielder Keon Broxton brought home all three runners. The Bees would get another run in the second on a Todd Cunningham triple, but could not scratch across another run. Colorado Springs scored one in the first inning and another four off Nuding in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead they would hold onto for the duration.  Salt Lake had runners on second and third with one out in the ninth, but Juan Graterol lined into a game-ending double play.

Game three of the four-game series will kick off tomorrow at 6:35 PM. The voice of the Bees, Steve Klauke, will rejoin the team Monday after calling the previous three games for the Los Angeles Angels. All Bees games – home and away – are broadcast on The Zone Sports Network (1280 AM) with Steve Klauke providing the play-by-play.
