Week 6 and Real Salt Lake still unbeaten

Real Salt Lake vs LA GalaxyWeek 6 and Real Salt Lake is still unbeaten in league play.  With a 2-2 tie in Philadelphia against the Union on a beautiful Saturday afternoon RSL moves to 2-0-4.

Real Salt Lake began the match with a high intensity as they got off to an early start after a penalty in the box on Austin Berry on Olmes Garcia.  Alvaro Sabario looked to the right side of the net, but Union GK Zac MacMath got a piece of it and sent it back out to a charging Luke Mulholland who put it on frame for the goal.  This makes two goals for Mulholland on the year, his first year with RSL.

Real Salt Lake vs LA GalaxyThe Union had a couple of chances to tie up the match before Andrew Wenger made his first hometown goal in the 55th minute of play to make the score 1-1.  This was the first goal that RSL has allowed in 290 minutes of play and the first on GK Jeff Attinella this year.  Attinella started in place of Nick Rimando again who is still nursing a knee injury that occurred in the USMT match against Mexico two weeks ago.

Kyle Beckerman again put the Claret and Cobalt ahead in the 85th minute against a Union club who has struggled in play after the 80th minute.  Javier Morales kept the play alive as he battled for the ball as it appeared that the Union had given up and crossed the ball in perfectly to Beckerman who drove the ball home for the go ahead shot.

The lead did not last long after a Union corner kick that was followed by a cross from Christian Maidana that was headed in by Maurice Edu.  Conner Casey who entered the game late for the Union had the last good chance for 3 points for the Union at the end of added time with a header that just flew to the left of the goal.

Next week Real Salt Lake takes on the Portland Timbers at Rio Tinto Stadium at 7:30 PM.
