Seattle, WA – The University of Utah made their first road trip of conference play as Washington hosted Utah in Men’s Basketball Wednesday night. The Huskies pulled off a win 59-57 with a crazy finish as Delon Wright had an opportunity to win the game but the shot just missed and the Jordan Loveridge put back was too late.. This was only the second road game for the Utes this season the other being a two point loss at Boise State.
The Utes came out as cold as the Salt Lake City air as they missed their first 11 shots and trailed at the half 26-21 shooting just 26% and turning it over 7 times. The Utes were also 0-9 from behind the arc and 6 of 23 from the field total. Utah played 10 different players in the first looking for a combination that could get points on the board. For the first half, Delon Wright had 9 points and 5 rebounds – Brandon Taylor, Jordan Loveridge and Jeremy Olsen with the other four field goals in the half.
Delon Wright played all 40 minutes of the game and had his 4th double double of the season with a career high as a Ute 27 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and an assist. Prince Onwas made an appearance in the game also after not playing in the last two conference games against the Oregon schools. He chipped in six points and sparked the defense in the second half as the Utes made a run to fight back after trailing at the end of the first half 21 – 26. One of the biggest issues for the Utes was their slow start and poor shooting. Utah went 1-15 from 3-point range. The Utes are now 12-3 on the season and 1-2 in PAC12.
The Huskies were led by Andrew Andrews with 19 points, three rebounds and an assist. C.J. Wilcox contributed 14 points and 5 rebounds while Nigel Williams-Goss added 13 points and three rebounds. The Huskies are now 10-6 on the season and 2-1 in PAC-12 conference play.
The Utes next play Washington State on Sunday in Pullman Washington. The Utes will come back home rather than staying in Washington for the four days between games.
