Sunday game at Rio Tinto Stadium was a big step forward for Real Salt Lake and their quest for another MLS cup and championship for the state of Utah.  Following last Thursday’s win over the Galaxy, RSL had to quickly follow up their performance with a 4-2 first leg advantage in the MLS Western Conference Final over the Portland Timbers.  RSL fans came out in full force on Sunday night with over 17,000 fans shouting and singing for their team.

Real Salt Lake saw goals scored in the first half by Chris Schuler and Robbie Findley and Devon Sandoval and Javier Morales scoring in the second.  Portland struck first on a free kick by Will Johnson and then a late goal in extended time by Frederic Piquionne assisted by Jack Jewsbury.

RSL next plays the Timbers on November 24th, 2013 in Portland Oregon for the second and final leg of the 2013 Western Conference Finals.
