Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, UT  –  Real Salt Lake gets a much needed 3 points at home
tonight against the top team in the league as they took on FC Dallas at Rio Tinto Stadium.  This is the first of 2 visits FC Dallas will make to Rio Tinto before the end of the season and is the start of a 3 game home stand for the Claret and Cobalt.

RSL came out and with intensity from the opening whistle and made this match look like a playoff match.  Coach Cassar said that as the team left the locker room Juan Manuel Martinez told the team to play like it was a final, and they did.  Dallas just couldn’t keep up as RSL help possession 66% with Dallas at 34%.  The passing accuracy was also right on target with 80% for Real tonight.

For most of the match hit looked like we might see another draw at home, but in the 78th minutes Jamison Olave changed that after

Chris Seitz blocked a shot by Joao Plata off of  a short corner and a cross from Javier Morales that found Olave’s foot and he pounded it high and to the right for the first and only goal of the night.

RSL leapfrogged LA to move into 3rd place in the West behind Dallas and Colorado.  With 5 of their now remaining 8 games at home it was crucial to pick up as many points as possible.

Tonight we saw Chris Schuler back in the Claret and Cobalt after signing with the club following a stint with the Real Monarchs, but with the way that Olave was playing tonight there was no need for him to see any playing time.  Pedro Baez was also on the sideline ready if called upon.
