Product Review – Nike+ Fuelband

Details: Nike’s fitness band, the FuelBand came out in early 2012 with a newer version coming out late 2013. The device tracks your activity by wearing the band on your wrist. As part of the  movement, the FuelBand allows its wearers to track their physical activity, steps taken daily, and amount of calories burned. The information from the wristband is integrated into the Nike+ online community and phone application, allowing wearers to set their own fitness goals, monitor their progression, and compare themselves to others part of the community. .

The devices use on Bluetooth LE, the Nike+ FuelBand SE is compatible with the iPhone 4S and later, as well as the fifth generation iPod Touch. Bluetooth LE allows the band to automatically connect with the Nike+ FuelBand Application.

The new FuelBand has been designed to be more accurate and more water-resistant.

Review: I have been using the original Nike+ FuelBand since December 25th 2012 so this review is coming after a full year of use.  I have had to replace one device due to a faulty battery and the replacement had a clasp that broke within a week.  The clasp was the extension so the unit was as tight as it is without.  I decided not to bother sending the unit back to get a new clasp and have just dealt with the band being a little tighter than I would like.  The other thing that happens is when the battery gets low it doesn’t track your movement well at all.

With the latest firmware update the two things I disliked the most about the band have been adjusted.  First, with a double click of the selector button you can see the time without cycling through the different data elements.  Second, if you hold the selector button down, it will show you the level of the battery.  HUGE improvement.
