The match started out a bit quiet for both clubs, with Seattle showing a slight advantage in ball movement and passing accuracy. Real had some great moments early on, and although they looked a bit messy, they were able to have some great shots at the goal.

The intensity paid off in the 22nd minute when Welshman’s shot is deflected by Lyon and Ricardo Velazco is in the right place at the right time and takes his shot before Lyon can recover to put the Monarchs up 1-0.

Eti Tavares 1v1 with Charlie Lyon

Seattle continued to show great composure but that was not enough to get the equalizer before the half, and in the 2nd minute of stoppage time Eti Tavares finds himself with the ball in the middle of the field with no one but Lyon between him and then net. Tavares pulls Lyon off his line at just the last minute and finds the back of the net to make the score Real Monarchs 2 – SS2 1.

Play resumed with both teams still pushing for points.  Seattle continued to play well with some great shots on goal, and the constant movement led to their only goal of the night.  An unassisted shot by Pablo Rossi that really left Fernandez with no chance in the 72nd minute.

The Monarchs were able to hold on for their first back to back win.

Quotes from the Coach:

On the overall match

Good overall game, we can still sharpen up in the second half but I think we started up well had some pretty good possession at times, created some opportunities, and maybe a little bit of nerves from the guys, I thought there were times that we could be a little more aggressive getting to the goal, but it was a nice crowd for them so i think they started with a little bit of jitters. got over it in the second half, we defended a little bit more than we like, but created some good exciting chances for the fans, i think they leave home happy.
